FirstFruits

by Trial Assoc. Pastor Diana Davis

Firstfruits are the first portion of any increase in our lives and are especially dedicated to God.  We must understand and acknowledge that all things come from God; and everything belongs to Him. This is an offering of sacrifice and worship to God on behalf of the whole (of His provision).  It is not limited to money only but includes things of the spirit, family, properties and business.

Deuteronomy 26:10, “And now behold I have brought the firstfruits of the land, which thou O Lord has given me, and thou shall set it before the Lord thy God, and worship before the Lord thy God.”

We express our trust in God, when we honor Him with firstfruits.  It shows Him that we believe He will continue to provide all that we need.  He honors the whole, when the first part is offered to Him and not used for any other purpose.  Leviticus 23:14, “And ye shall eat neither bread, corn, or green ears until the selfsame day that ye have brought an offering unto your God.”

Firstfruits are not the harvest but will give us a greater desire for the expected abundance.  Proverbs 3:9, “Honor the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase.”

When we were filled with the Spirit, we became the firstfruits of God’s creatures and the firstfruits of the Spirit.  James 1:18, “Of His own will begat He us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of all His creatures.”  We are the only creatures of God that have the ability to experience the firstfruits of repentance, faith, hope and love in our spirits, as we become disciples of Jesus.  He became the firstfruit of the grave and of eternal life.  I Corinthians , 22, “But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.  22For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.”

When we cheerfully release firstfruits, we are in order for the blessing of a full harvest in all areas of life.
